Have you been the same person who's been talking to me through this address the entire time? I wasn't aware you could read people's responses on the web site. I'll have to check that out. Anyway, be nice. People are watching.....

Oh, I love it when you talk dirty to me. I am about to blow a load all over the key board. I think my ball back is over due for an eruption. Yea, how did you know that I was a fat ass. Thanks for the compliment. Are you the center of the universe, too? Existential? What is wrong with the feeling the world is revolving and evolving around you? I think it is a great feeling for us "me" generation of freaks. Thank God, I can use the feedom of speech to express how I feel in a constructive manner. What about you? Did I insult you? I am sorry if I hurt you tender feelings.
You know, I enjoy the amusement of communicating with strangers over the internet. Other wise I would fall victim to boredom and insanity. Write to me about some more of your bullshit stories or you may even hurtle a few more delicious insults that I enjoy gobbling up. Oh yea, don't forget to correct my grammar, too. Okay asshole?

How many bitches spoil the broth? While you and a good many participants are playing for fun, a group about as large wants to mock and belittle me and my concerns, or give me nonsense advice, or otherwise just plain annoy.
A look through the messages shows you pieces of *some* of the more negative missives I've received.

There's nothing (a) new or (b) magical about the use of anonymizing devices.
They have shown again and again to be subject to abuse. This is just one more criticism of this game. i get messages which are mocking and taunting, telling me I'm incorrect, naive, weak, stupid, unemployed, stuck-up, or powerless to resist this anonymous service-de-jour. If I had any mechanism to remove myself from it, believe me, I wouldn't care. But I do not.
Another mocking theme is that if I would just ignore it, it would go away. This is also untrue, and in my case, certainly does not apply. I'm going to get sent crap for months.

Oh, there's another theme: That I karmically deserve it. Right.

Ironically, you see my email, and have every ability to write to me and meet me of your own accord. An anonymizer is prone to abuse and offers no value to me or you.

Your two points here make it clear I will need to start some kind of Still Fallacies FAQ.

1) It is not bulk e-mail. No debate there. It is akin to a mailing list one cannot get off of.

2) How long would it take for people to stop replying? Months? Years? I guess two or three days would be "reasonable" in my mind (but not in netiquitte). But the fact is I probably will receive StillSpam for months. I could block it, and will when I get tired of speaking to strangers about my feelings on the subject. But official indifference to my concerns made me want to fight back, too.

David,

My penguin says hello. He's sitting on my desk, honking forlornly. He misses you, you know. Why don't you ever come say hi to him any more? I wouldn't mind if you dropped in either. I'd make you some iguana stew (since you seemed to like it so much last time). That reminds me, are we still on for Arbor Day? I still have my half of the wicker igloo from next time.

Yours,

>quit acting like you're some sort of internet superhero....
>you dont scare me

Tearing away his modest attire, Internet Ivan leaps into IP, travelling routers in a single hop! From the ground, young Billy Bottleneck exclaims, "Bandwidth power to the people!" as Ivan smashes his nemesis Bulk Emailer into bits! PING! POW!

Later that week, Ivan is treated to a cyberspace magneto-tape parade, as grateful throngs pay their respects to a true Internet Superhero!

>::frowns:: If you don't like it, blocking it for yourself is
>one thing, but why ruin it for the rest of us?

Your logic is incomplete. As my anti-SPAM activist put it, blocking still allows you to steal bandwidth from my ISP. It's a band-aid, not a solution.
Of course I told him I don't care but he launched an inquiry anyhow.

Your game lacks appropriate measures for someone who does not want to play. Your records are crammed with parties who do not wish to participate. Why ruin the inbox for them? If you really want me to take your argument seriously, you have to be quite a bit more honest and accurate about the willingness of your participants, and their ability to withdraw from your game. I think it's a little funny when they guess and wonder who you are.
That's ok. But even after I knew, and simply did not choose to play, I was unable to withdraw.

If you had only played nice, I would have either (a) had a way to remove myself from your system automatically, or at very least (b) had success reaching your administrator to be removed manually.

Like I said, art exists on my levels. Poetic justice is a beautiful thing. Aren't you basking in the beauty of making your bed and now sleeping in it?

Why does everyone think Hotmail's a little thing? Hotmail's cool!

I realized that I could block your domain, and that sorta solved it for me.

But I told my friend about your site, and he involved some spam activists who maintain spamtraps and realtime black holes.

So now a lot of your outgoing messages get dropped by participating ISP's.
